sometimes i wish | day 20/30 days of april poems

“Backward, turn backward, O Time, in your flight,
Make me a child again, just for tonight!”
-Elizabeth Akers Allen

Sometimes I wish I could go back to yesterday
And re-say all the things I meant to say
Sometimes I wish I could turn back the clock
And return to the year I didn’t feel so stuck
When I was younger, brighter, with dreams as fresh
As newly picked flowers
Or a bird without a leash
When the days seemed simpler
And the sky seemed bluer
When it was so much easier,
To smile and sing with laughter.

Oh, a wind of the clocks, that’s all it would take
A wish on a dandelion, a wish that everyone has made,
To go back in time to who we used to be
To go back to when we felt so free

About Isabelle Knight 235 Articles
Hi! My name is Isabelle Knight, and I'm the young writer and middle-grade author of the Enchantria series! I love writing (though the writing process is usually both magical and maddening) and have been writing since I was ten. When I'm not writing about eerie shadows, daring heroines, and magic, I'm usually stuck with my nose in a book, drawing, or playing the ukulele or tin whistle.
