Scribbles From a Scribe | Lantern Hill, Halfway to Light, & Starface

Happy October!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello, you all!! ^^ Eeee, I can’t believe it… September has practically flown by me (and filled with moving, editing, interviews, and also art!), and October is now here! It certainly is getting much colder here now….. And not to mention October is my birth month! So yes, I shall be turning 13 soon….

Which is….

Terrifying.

Again….. we won’t speak of this.

Anywho, I’m sure most of you know me as a writer — a chaotic scribbler of stories who stays up late writing ideas down in notebooks, spends her afternoons staring in despair at her computer screen or notebook, or wrangling stories.

But this past August and September, I’ve sort of embarked on a “new journey”… to be an aspiring artist. My dream is to someday be able to make good enough art that people can commission me to do art, illustrate picture books, book covers, etc. Oh yes, and learn not to despise digital art.

Anyway, I wanted to make a short post to share some pieces of art I did! 🙂

Lantern Hill – Isabelle Knight

Ta-da!!! This is the first piece of digital art I did that I’m actually happy with, and I really love it! I struggle a lot with making digital art not look lifeless and flat, but I think I’ve finally found a brush and sort of style that I think works for me!

Halfway to Light — Isabelle Knight

This is a piece that… kind of flowed out of me. I think it’s one of my favorites. Mainly because this piece means a lot to me. I was struggling with depression, anxiety, and OCD in autumn and winter of 2024, and it was a time where I just felt so alone, and I really am grateful to God who saved me during this time.

And with this autumn, this sort of alone feeling has returned. And I just…. I kept trying to write it out. To try and get it out of me with words. And it just wouldn’t come out.

So… I took up a digital paintbrush, and this is kind of what came out. A girl. Alone in the dark. Darkness eating away at her on one side. Glowing on the other side. Shadows fading into dim stars.

Of course, this may look very very different to you. I do think this is the type of art that will look different depending on the person looking at it.

Starface

I really don’t know what this was. I wanted to draw an eye. And wanted it to be in space. Then had a bit too much fun with the smudge/lift tool. Soooo… And I’m calling this Starface because it was supposed to be in space….

Those were the three main art pieces I did this weekend, so that’s all for now! I hope you found a piece that spoke to you, and do let me know down in the comments what you think of these and also how your weekend went! ^^ Now… I must get back to editing Island Keepers.

Till next time,

-Isabelle

P.S. Please do not steal any of my artwork. I own the copyright for these pieces, and if you attempt to plagiarise or steal from me, I will send Queen Halite after you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Either that, or be forced to send a DMCA takedown request which I have had to do before, and I prefer not to…)

P.P.S. For those who are unaware, Queen Halite is the queen of the firebreathing dragons of Drakonia, who made her first appearance in Enchantria: Sun and Flame.

Hi! My name is Isabelle Knight, and I'm the young writer and middle-grade author of the Enchantria series! I love writing (though the writing process is usually both magical and maddening) and have been writing since I was ten. When I'm not writing about eerie shadows, daring heroines, and magic, I'm usually stuck with my nose in a book, drawing, or playing the ukulele or tin whistle.

  1. I love your art work, Isabelle, these three pieces are really good, I especially like Halfway to Light. Nice digital signature too! I’d love to be able to draw. Keep going with the art, another benefit that you will be able to illustrate your own books. Also drawing pictures of characters and scenes and things that inspire will really help with your creative flow, so well done! I hope to see more 🙂

    • Thanks, Valinora!! I’m glad you like Halfway to Light! It’s one of my favorites. 🙂 And I’m also glad you like my digital signature!!! I’ve had this signature for a while now, and I practically jumped at the chance to FINALLY use it! And I agree. It’s part of why I’m taking up digital art — in the hopes of someday being able to illustrate my own picture book.

  2. Happy almost 13th birthday, Isabelle! (By the way, your writing is so skilled, insightful and fluid I thought you were way older!)

Your art is so colourful and expressive, keep it up girl!! I esp. enjoyed the first one. Is it by change inspired by Jane of Lantern Hill? (Though it seems like your own idea to me, not sure if there are many actual lanterns in that book!)

    Have a great Wedensday!!

    • Thank you, Iona!!! Haha, you’re not the first person who’s thought that I’m older. XD And thank you somuch! I’m glad you liked Lantern Hill! I’ve never heard of Jane of Lantern HIll, but I see it’s a novel by LM Montgomery (I looked it up). I might read it!! I ADORED Anne of Green Gables! Thanks for coming, and I’m glad you like my art!

  3. Happy almost birthday!
Also, your art is so beautiful, and it really touched a piece of my heart. Especially “Halfway to Light”..that piece really spoke to me.
You’re such a talented artist! Thank you for sharing your work!

  4. I really love halfway to the light…there’s just something about it that kinda makes me calm for some reason…
And beautiful art pieces by the way! You are already on your way to becoming a professional artist!
Also, Happy early Birthday! 13 was a really exciting age for me because you’re still young, but more (new) doors/opportunities open up!
Thanks for sharing your work btw!

    • Thank you, Agnes! ^^ I’m really glad you like Halfway to Light! I agree. There’s something calming about it for me as well… And thank you for your early happy birthday! 13 is still a terrifying prospect. But uhm… I am trying not to think about it that way. Thanks for reading and for commenting your thoughts!
