Merry Christmas!!! (& a christmas poem)

Hello, dear reader! ^^ Wow. I can’t believe it’s already Christmas… *is rather baffled at the passing of time* I’m hoping the rest of you are all having a wonderful, merry Christmas, full of laughter and hope and songs and food!!

My family did indeed have a wonderful time exchanging gifts (and I got one of the best gifts a writer could ever get…. *grins and cackles* More on this in a later post.) and I suppose I’m just winding down a bit now. Feeling sleepy. My main plan is to really just read, watch Lord of the Rings with Charlotte and Izzy for a bit, and eat marshmallows. Perhaps brainstorm my WIP a bit.

But at any rate, I did a little bit of writing today and decided to finally finish writing a poem I wrote a few weeks back. A Christmas poem. And I wanted to share it with y’all. Merry Christmas and enjoy!!

One, Two, Three

by Isabelle Knight

One.
One tree standing in the middle of the room,
All brightness and beauty and life
with winking lights strung through
and glittering bright baubles hung on
the lush evergreen branches.

Two.
Two candles sitting
on a windowsill looking
out at the snow and ice and wind.
One each
for the masters of this house.

Three.
Three kittens playing
their soft fur a storm
of grey and blacks and whites
as their little white paws scrabble about
beside the glowing hearth.

Four.
Four dolls lying
on the maroon red fur of the carpet.
Their porcelain faces and sky-blue eyes
smile
as they watch the figures
of five children playing,
silhouettes by the fire.

Five
Five presents under the tree,
Wrapped in color, tied with twine
One for little Susan, who longs to play the violin,
One for little John, who dreams to sail off
to his own adventures of stormy seas and gold,
One for Ella, who wants nothing but to dream and write,
One for Mika, who wishes to ride and see dragons,
And one for the oldest, Rose,
who longs to see the sea.

A thousand.
A thousand silver snowflakes
twirling and dancing
through the wind and houses and trees,
to coat the land in a soft blanket
of winter snow.

Hi! My name is Isabelle Knight, and I'm the young writer and middle-grade author of the Enchantria series! I love writing (though the writing process is usually both magical and maddening) and have been writing since I was ten. When I'm not writing about eerie shadows, daring heroines, and magic, I'm usually stuck with my nose in a book, drawing, or playing the ukulele or tin whistle.
