A Free Verse Poem I Wrote

Hello everyone! Isabelle Knight here again! This time I am just posing a short, free verse poem that I wrote today based on my dream.

The wind
ruffling
my hair
as I
race through the air.
I stretch out
my arms,
feeling the wind
hit them
as I steady myself
then
continue to
soar
through the air.
It’s exhilarating.
I look down.
I am
above
everything.
I can see
anything
from here.
The soft, tall
grass
of the plains
swaying
in the wind
as
I soar over
them,
the wind
roaring in my
ears.
I am one
with the wind.
I can see anything.
Go anywhere.
Be
anything.
For a while,
I am
free.

This poem is based on a dream that I had a few nights ago. I didn’t write out my entire dream because that would’ve been… well, it would’ve been extremely strange. All you need to know is that one of the less… appealing characters was in my dream. You will not find her in the poem.

Anyway, I hope that you enjoyed this poem! I haven’t really written free-verse poetry before and it’s not as easy as you think. However, I was inspired by Brown Girl Dreaming to write some free verse. It’s strangely pleasing.
