i wish you could see | day 25/30 days of april poems

“The small things of life were often so much bigger than the great things . . . the trivial pleasure like cooking, one’s home, little poems especially sad ones, solitary walks, funny things seen and overheard.” -Barbara Pym, Less Than Angels

I sometimes wish that you could see
The beauty and joy that life could be
The little things that bring me hope
Violets, flowers, or a star in the telescope

I sometimes wish that you could see
What a difference being kind could be
A simple word or hug or holding your tongue
Not mocking the poor, is that so wrong?

I often wish you could see
You don’t have to be one with society
You can dream your own dreams
Walk your own path
You do not have to be everything that they all ask.

Oh I sometimes wish you’d let yourself smile
Dance in the rain, if only for a while
For I greatly wish you could see
You can be who you want to be.

About Isabelle Knight 240 Articles
Hi! My name is Isabelle Knight, and I'm the young writer and middle-grade author of the Enchantria series! I love writing (though the writing process is usually both magical and maddening) and have been writing since I was ten. When I'm not writing about eerie shadows, daring heroines, and magic, I'm usually stuck with my nose in a book, drawing, or playing the ukulele or tin whistle.
