A Book Review of David Serra’s Arthur and Kerwin

Hey, hey, hey, everyone! Isabelle Knight here again with another book review!!! This book is a short, sci-fi adventure by a fellow author on StoryCraft Cafe (basically the NaNoWriMo x writing community!), David Serra! And I have to say, this is an amazing book! So without further ado, let’s just jump right in!!!!!

So Arthur and Kerwin is about a cat named Arthur, and he is onboard the Solar Phoenix along with his owner, Savannah and the human crew. They were wakened from stasis because of a mysterious distress signal from a desolate planet and were sent to investigate. Imagine their shock when they found an abandoned spaceship and… let’s just say it’s pretty clear a disaster happened. But when they return, they unknowingly bring back a stowaway alien creature that Arthur calls Kerwin. The two of them become good friends, but Arthur has to find a way to protect Kerwin from the humans.

I really really really really loved this book! I don’t normally read sci-fi or shorter stories, but this one I just really enjoyed! The world and the length is absolutely perfect for the book! It’s action-packed, flows really well, and also… the plot twists!!! I don’t want to spoil anything for you guys so… let’s just say Caleb is an interesting character.

The cover could use a bit of work. Like I mentioned in my review on Amazon and Goodreads, it’s not really recommended to draw your own cover. The concept of this is really nice, and I just think it could’ve been executed a little bit better. But honestly, the inside story is amazing, and I enjoyed it!

I would definitely highly recommend it to fans of sci-fi adventures who are also cat and alien lovers! I’d probably recommend this book to teens and young adults. Older tweens might be able to read this book, though it’s not exactly written for them. And someone’s heart also disintegrated inside their chest so… I’m just warning ya if you’re a younger reader.

The formatting could use a bit of work. You’re supposed to format it with paragraph text for books, which basically drops down one line after the previous paragraph. The formatting on this blog is text body which drops down like…. two lines and there’s a sorta space between the paragraphs? I’m bad at explaining things, though. Just go read Percy Jackson, and you’ll see what the correct formatting is without me having to ramble on and on and on… Am I rambling already??

But overall, I loved this book! I’d give it four to five stars! A must-read for all lovers of sci-fi adventures! And while the cover is not super professional, don’t let that put you off! It’s an amazing book! And don’t blame me for the FOMO you’ll get by not reading this just because you’re not a fan of the cover.

So yeah! That wraps up this book review! I hope you enjoyed it! Also, don’t forget, Enchantria: Champion, is coming out December 23! And the paperback for Enchantria: Guardian’s Heir will be released on December 31!!! As for the rest of the paperback books… I need to get them out soon, apparently. Leah, I’ll try to get book two’s paperback out before March.

So thank you so much for coming, and I shall see you again in the next post!!!
