What My Characters Would Think of Me -- A Writing Tag

Hello, all!! ^^ How’s your week been going? My week has been filled with… editing. Lots and lots of editing. Red scribbles allll over my manuscript. And I’ve also started a new novel! More on that later… I’ve also been doing more art!!! I seem to have been on a roll with digital drawing, and I created this piece of art which I’m really proud of! To be honest, it’s hard to say where this piece of art came from, because I really can’t put it into words. Hence me putting it into colors and textures as seen in this piece of art:

Let me know what you think of this piece! ^^ I have no clue where the inspiration for this thing came from, but…. there it is. But anywho, today, I am doing the very thing I kind of swore I would never do (because I never saw the appeal of doing it).

Starting a book/writing tag.

I’ve been tagged by Journey Bloomfield for the Oddly Specific Things I Love In Books tag (which was super fun! Thank you, Journey, for tagging me!), and I had a lot of fun doing it! And so I decided to come up with my own tag. And I sort of wondered…

What would my characters think of me?

Would they thank me for creating them? Throw pillows at me in a pillow fight? Talk about life over a cup of tea? Despise me for all the torturous things I’ve put them through and then throw pillows at me in revenge?

All of the above?

But that is how I came up with this tag!! This is the outline (which is very much inspired by Iona at Story Blossoms, the original creator of the Oddly Specific Things I Love in Books tag! I definitely have to give her credit for the structure of this because…. I could not figure out how to do my own tag, and I loved the structure of the Oddly Specific Things I Love in Books tag… Sorry for having to take the structure of that tag from you, Iona!)

  • Link back to whoever tagged you.
  • Link back to the original tag.
  • Share the Graphic below on your blog.
  • Share one hilarious fact about your WIP.
  • Share what at least four of your characters (the Main Character, the Villain, the Lovable (or perhaps Sarcastic or whatever their personality is) Side Character, and A Character of Your Choosing) would think of you.
  • Tag at least five people who would enjoy taking part (you can tag more if you want).

So without further ado, let us get started with this book tag, shall we?

One hilarious fact about my WIP: It was originally a series, and I had a villain in the later books who was SUCH a good villain (she was rather funny as well…… when she wasn’t devising sly, sneaky plans), and I miss her ever so much. Oh yes, and I once made it rain for five chapters straight in Island Keepers. What?? It’s a rainy world!!!

What My Main Character Would Think of Me

Hmm… I think Ani would think I’m probably one of the weirdest people to have ever walked the earth, but also shrug it off because she’s already seen crazy things in my life. She’d think I’m chaotic, a bit cruel for making her go through such trauma, but also due to the fact that I do guarantee her a good ending to her story, she just barely trusts me.

Still has a grudge against me though.

What My Villain Would Think of Me

He would despise me and think me beneath him. He would not understand my passion for stories, and think I am a fool for believing in hope, redemption, and kindness. He would also think me an idiot and likely rage and howl at me about revenge and hatred and all that being the only option.

Hence why I never hope to meet him. πŸ™‚

Ah yes, and he would howl at me and try to destroy me for giving him such a traumatizing past and turning him into the phantom he is now. As of now, he is not aware that I am the one who has caused this trauma and grief and I would like it to remain that way….

What My Lovable Side Character Would Think of Me

What happens if I don’t have a lovable side character?

I’ve been working on Island Keepers and the main side character has switched around MULTIPLE times: Paige, Erica, Rin, Diana, Lark, etc etc etc, and so many have been cut, put back in, cut again, switched out that I honestly don’t even know who the lovable side character throughout the main book is.

However, I do have a lovable side character who appears in Act One (and I absolutely ADORE her!!!) and that is the one, the only, Sunflight the griffon!!!

Sunflight would follow me around everywhere, flapping her wings and chirping at me wherever I went. She’d probably pick me as her go-to snack carrier due to how many snacks I have around me when I write, and she would probably steal my newly bought pack of roasted and salted nuts and berries (which I’ve yet to eat, so I’ve no clue if it actually tastes good) She’d probably love me but also kind of hate me for putting her best friend, Ani, through such trauma.

What Alex Would Think of Me

Alex is the Character of my Choosing for the fourth character, and he is Ani’s younger brother. As for what he’d think of me… I feel like, like Ani, he would have a very strong grudge against me for putting both him and his family through such terrible things throughout this book and would likely just give me the cold shoulder entirely. It’s either that, or he would bombard me with a million questions about writing and if I know the future of the world these characters are living in. Both are equally likely. And he’d probably think me just a tad bit cruel of a writer.

Which I really cannot blame him for.

Who I’m Tagging

I hereby tag Journey Bloomfield @Journey Bloomfield, because she’s one of my best friends, and I know she’d have fun answers to this!

Hallie Kropf @Hallie Kropf Author because she’s another one of my friends, and I would love to hear her thoughts on this!

Valinora Troy @Valinora Troy I’ve actually already tagged her for the Oddly Specific Things I Love in Books tag, and I know she’s very busy… but I would love to hear her answers to this tag as well!

I also hereby tag Lillian Keith @Lillian Keith Author because I’ve read her two books, Nova and the Lost Stars and The Apprentice Escapes and would love to hear her thoughts!

And last but not least, I also hereby tag Lola Mae @Lola Mae Writes! Her blog is so cute, and her WIPs sound so cool (and she’s a fellow middle-grade writer!), so would love to hear her answers!

Let me know down in the comments what you think of this new tag! πŸ™‚ Oh yes, and if you are reading this, then I hereby tag you as well! You can either share your own thoughts on your blog or just share your thoughts in the comments! I look forward to hearing from y’all!

Till next time, and may you have a wonderfully cozy week filled with great books (I know mine has! Been filled with great books, that is),

-Isabelle

P.S. I just thought maybe I should mention this… If you’ve commented on my blog and haven’t seen me reply, chances are I actually have replied — a very odd thing about this blog that I can’t seem to figure out (and don’t really dare to mess with since it was hard enough getting my blog to function this well!!! I do not want to mess with anything… I’m awful with tech) is that you don’t get emailed whenever I, or anyone else, reply to your comment. But I typically do!!! You just may have to check back a little while later to see if I have. :/

Hi! My name is Isabelle Knight, and I'm the young writer and middle-grade author of the Enchantria series! I love writing (though the writing process is usually both magical and maddening) and have been writing since I was ten. When I'm not writing about eerie shadows, daring heroines, and magic, I'm usually stuck with my nose in a book, drawing, or playing the ukulele or tin whistle.

  1. Ooh, this is such a fun tag!!! I’m super excited to do it!! (My poor subscribers are getting positively slammed with new posts. The poor things.)
I love the picture too! It’s very emotional, and the ghostly words really tie the whole thing together! Keep putting up your art while you’re making it. I love seeing it!!
Alex is my favorite character from Island Keepers!!! I’m glad you included him. Also the fact that it rained that long is hilarious. Your poor characters must be drenched!!

    • Yayy!!! I’m so excited to see your post!! Haha, I don’t think they mind. And if they do, tis their own fault… They DID sign up to be emailed each time you post, after all. XD Besides, I love your posts!!! I’m quite glad you’re posting more often now, actually. And I’m so glad you like the picture! I had fun drawing it, especially the ghostly word. I certainly shall!

And aww, I’m so glad to hear that!!! I’ve been struggling with Island Keepers and with writing recently, so I’m really glad to hear who your favorite character is! (I agree. I quite like him as well. Tis a pity he doesn’t appear more often in the story.” Haha, yes! XD It was literally storm after storm after storm!!! Sometimes the rain would pause for a few pages…. And then immediately there’d be another storm!
