The Book of the Month Recommendation!

The Book of the Month Recommendation!

Hello!!! Isabelle Knight here again! So, as some of you may know (I say some of you because you may be a new person here), I plan to recommend a book each month. Well, the time has come! By the way, this is the Book of the Month for May, not June. It’s being written and posted on June because… well, if you read my blog post on the cover reveal, you’ll know that the past few days have been tiring to say the least. In case you haven’t read it, here is a very quick summary: okay lunch at a restaurant, hours long around the city, very tired, creepy Dicos filled with Kung Fu Panda characters. Brilliant. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, this is the Book of the Month!

The SkyTalons series by Sophie Torro.

So, now let me explain the hint I gave you in a previous post. Canadian sky, the School for Good and Evil. (I think it went like this.) The author is Canadian and well, the series’ name is SkyTalons. Sophie is the name of a character from The School for Good and Evil.

I absolutely love this series and it’s also for free on kindle unlimited. I just love this series!!!!!! It has a few things that are a bit similar to the Warriors series by Erin Hunter but at the same time, kinda different.

The book is about a pigeon named Cornelius who lives among a group of pigeons in the city. There are tribes of birds. The pigeons aren’t really one of them. There’s the Raven tribe, Blue Jay tribe, Barn Owl tribe, Falcon tribe. I don’t think that’s all of them. Is it? Sorry, I kinda forget sometimes. Anyway, one day, Cornelius discovers he is one of the three SkyTalons, birds chosen by Jarquanzila (a rooster bird that all the bird tribes worship) to protect the tribes. The other SkyTalon is a raven named Shadow who lives in the Raven tribe which is currently under the rule of her tyrant brother, Malik. I won’t give away too much or else I’ll give spoilers. Let’s just say there are plot twists you will absolutely NEVER see coming.

I feel like the writing could be improved somehow to be more descriptive and to sound more professional. With the writing in the book, you can sort of tell that the author isn’t as experienced (it’s not really a bad thing, especially if it’s your first book and you’re self-publishing like Sophie Torro) but it’s still good. The story itself is just amazing! It had me hooked until the last page! I think I finished the series in about a day or two. That’s how good it was. The only thing I didn’t like was how the last book ended with a cliffhanger. It makes me want to read more but there isn’t more. I think the author will continue with that storyline but right now, she has not. I think she’s currently working on the Coyotes of Discord. It’s like that with a lot of her series (did you know that the plural of series is just series?). It’s a little bit annoying sometimes because she has not yet continued with that storyline.

I don’t know when you’ll be reading the series. Right now, it’s 2024. But I hope that by the time some of you do, Sophie Torro will have continued with that storyline. If not… you’ll just have to wait, I’m afraid.

Anyway, the SkyTalons series is amazing! It has everything I love, adventures, plot twists, and quite a few betrayals that you won’t see coming. I would highly recommend it to people who are 8 to 12 or older than that and who are fans of the Warriors series by Erin Hunter and Sophie Torro’s other series, The Wolves of Elementa.

I think that wraps up this month’s Book of the Month recommendation. Thank you so much for reading this blog and I will see you soon for the next writing update, writing tip, or just a random story.
