in which cute fluffy comrades ramble about their taste in books

*collapses on the doorstep with a great deal of books spilling out of my arms*

Hello, hello, all ye– *coughs as two giant panda fluffballs jump onto my head* ACK! Guys!

Izzy: You promised us, Isabelle!!! *waves a paw threateningly* You promised to let us have this post!

Isabelle: But you promised to let me have the intro!! Now get off my head! *coughs as I choke on fur*

*clears throat*

Anyway! Hello, hello, all ye bookworms and writers and readerly folk! ^^ I hope you’re all doing well! Gosh. Part of me can’t believe it’s the end of January already. Truly, I cannot be the only one who feels as though they are still in last year? My week has been terribly interesting, you could put it. I have once again picked up my feeble attempts to speak French. I’ve never been terribly good at learning other languages before, but I have been reinvigorated by my dear friends, who have agreed to help me!! ^^ Many thanks to them!

However…

I… alas, have been struck by a sudden plague the past three days.

A plague I’ve never had before.

The plague…

Of what on Earth to actually write on my blog.

*shudders* I refuse to call it blogger’s block as writer’s block already exists, and we hates it, and we refuses to ever let the word “blogger’s block” come into existence.

But it is something I’ve been pondering and wondering over. What ought I write? Everything I attempt to do just sounds feeble. Or whiny. Or complainy. I have those millions of ARCs I ought to get to and review, yes, but I only ever review those once a week on Mondays.

And so it was from there that this wild idea was born.

If I could not think of anything to write, why not let the adorable little CFC’s of this blog do so?

And so. Without further ado, I present to ye all, Izzy, Charlotte, and Fuzzy Bee, as they join us here to ramble and chatter and yammer about their bookish tastes!! :)) Take it away, you three! Just don’t burn down the blog.

Izzy: Oh, yes, hello all you glorious blog readers!! I am most pleased to be here!! First off though, I’d very much like to say thank you for all your glorious comments and such. We are most pleased to hear you have been enjoying the blog and our CFC reviews!

Charlotte: Hear hear!! There ought to be more of us on this blog. Actually, we ought to have our own blog, I thinks………. *ponders this for a long, long moment*

Fuzzy Bee: *buzzes her wings* Well, I myself am very grateful to Isabelle for including me in the CFC. It’s been a delight.

Izzy: Indeed. Let us see. How ought we begin? Ah yes. Reading…

Charlotte: Was the bane of my existence.

Izzy: *glares*

Charlotte: What? I didn’t pick up a single book! Never! Ever! I despised them with all my being. So terribly boring. Till Isabelle eventually forced me to read Valinora Troy’s books because we were to interview her, and I fell in love with Lucky and Vicky and Alan and all the other wonderful children. And WITCH ROSE!!! We hates her. We hates her forever.

Izzy: Well, at least it got you into reading, my dear. *pats her on the head*

Fuzzy Bee: *buzzes her wings in approval*

Izzy: Goodness, reading has been a part of my life since I was a wee, little panda tot!! I grew up with all the classics, you see. Charlotte’s Web (which Isabelle has yet to read), Number the Stars, Narnia… All glorious, glorious books. But then I grew far too busy with my ten panda cubs, and so I fell out of reading. Didn’t touch a book in years!

Until, that is, Isabelle herself got into reading. Goodness. She devoured the Warriors series within a week. We all kept insisting that she slow down, but that girl is mad, I tell you, mad! She reads like a crazed gremlin… Anywho, where was I?

Charlotte: Books!! Books! Books! Booksies! *jumps up and down in her little reading nook* I adore them. They are beautiful creatures. I have this little shelf in my book nook where I hoard my favorites and read them under the covers. I adores middle-grade. It’s the best genre, in my opinion. As is fantasy.

Izzy: Yes indeed. Middle-grade really is the best genre. That’s where all the brilliant gems are!

Charlotte: And fantasy!!! Dragons and quests and heroines!!! And TIME TRAVEL!!! I also like science fictiony fantasy books. Fantasy books that have a bit of sci-fi to them. There was this fantasy book I adored. Seckry Sevenstars, I believe it was called. Twas brilliant. Alas, I know not what happened to the author, for he has not finished the series and it’s been like 12 years. *sobs* Really??? Twelve years??? Why’d you pull a Game of Thrones on us??? *weeps* I haven’t even been ALIVE 12 years!!

Fuzzy Bee: Oh yes, I have heard of this book. Isabelle has told me many a tale about it. She adored it! I believe there is a third book, actually. Came out this year.

Charlotte: WHAT.

Fuzzy, you really don’t mean to tell me– *stares in great disbelief* *throws herself onto her pillow* Seriously? After twelve years, you finally publish the third book… And tis not even in Kindle Unlimited and I cannot afford it!!

Fuzzy Bee: I have three jars of honey.

Charlotte: Huh?

Fuzzy Bee: You said you had no money! *buzzes her wings* So here. Three jars of honey.

Izzy: Is this to make us feel better? *sniffs at the honey* This is good honey.

Fuzzy Bee: No, no, we bees pay in honey.

Charlotte: Do you by any chance have, like, 10 dollars?

Fuzzy Bee: What, no! Human money? ‘Course I don’t. *licks a drop of honey on her wings* Besides. Bee money is far superior. Human money is bland, tasteless paper. Bee money is glorious and necessary for everything.

Charlotte: Isabelleeee? *sad puppy eyes* Do you have 10 dollars?

Izzy: Bland tasteless paper? *eyes Fuzzy Bee* Does this mean…

Fuzzy Bee: ‘Course I ate it. I had to. I had to see what it tasted like.

Charlotte: YOU ATE MONEY???? How much money!!!!

Fuzzy Bee: *shrugs* I do not know. A one hundred, methinks.

Charlotte: A HUNDRED!!!?

Fuzzy Bee: What? Is this a lot? They are all the same sized paper anyway.

Charlotte: ………….. *wails*

Izzy: Now, now! We are here to talk about books! Not the lack of money we have to buy books.

Charlotte: *looks at her giant to-be-read list. glances at Isabelle’s. Then Izzy’s. Then Fuzzy’s* I think this would require one of those Percy Jackson casino cards. The one where Annabeth used to pay for their taxi? The one that had endless money? This list is endless.

Izzy: Perhaps, yes… Yes, that would be good. Or free books.

Charlotte: Oooh, ARCsies!!!! Yes, yes. We love ARCsies. Free books to review!!! *rubs her paws together in glee* There are some most wonderful books there. We have been requesting a great deal of fantasy books from NetGalley.

Fuzzy Bee: Indeed. We ought to read more historical fiction as well.

Charlotte: Historical fiction is lovely. It is simply one of the best. Tis glorious. And the amount of research these authors do… I could NEVER! What do you MEAN you managed to dig through archives and papers just to write this book?? We tried an archive once!!! When Isabelle was trying to write a book about Irish mythology!!! And twas all in Old Irish!!!! Not even Irish! OLD Irish! And untranslated! So yes. Historical fiction is lovely. I wish we read more of them.

Izzy: I always love me a good historical fiction. They are splendid. Though it is most irritating as Kindle does not have “Historical Fiction” as an actual book genre in children’s fiction, and so it is very hard to find.

Fuzzy Bee: *nods sadly*

Izzy: I do also enjoy a good ol’ sci-fi/dystopian novel though! To just lie back on my bed and crack open an old YA dystopian novel… It is wonderful. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is one of my favorites.

Fuzzy Bee: Well, it is practically a classic by now!

Izzy: It is just so very… alive. And raw. And vivid. And real. And Prim…………………………………………………………………………………………..

*CFCs all fall into silence to mourn her*

Charlotte: *sniffs* One of the worst literature deaths of all time. Almost as horrible as Beth March’s.

Izzy: *nods sadly* But other than this, this is a delightful dystopian novel! And there is romance! And it isn’t absolutely terrible romance like in books today. I also enjoy reading the occasional sci-fi.

Charlotte: I do not like sci-fi booksies. I can never wrap my head around modern technology. I can’t even work out Isabelle’s wireless headphones. So don’t go talking to me about this impossibly complicated spaceships!!!!! Besides. I’d rather stay comfortably with my feet planted on earth, where humans and animals were meant to live. *plants her foot firmly in her pillow* I like booksies with lanterns though. And cottages. And paint cards. *sighs dreamily* Honey Butter, dear Honey Butter.

Izzy: All of Millie Florence’s books are delightful, really.

Fuzzy Bee: Yes, yes! And cozy books!! I love them. They’re just this warm little hug on a cold day. They’re the best for when you’re sad. You can just read them and slip into this world of wonder and hugs and beauty.

Izzy: Have you ever read cozy fantasy, by any chance?

Fuzzy Bee: No, no… I don’t believe so.

Izzy: Ah. Most is adult anyway. Which I do not read that much. I have heard of it. It sounds… cozy.

Fuzzy Bee: I do not think there is a specific genre like that in middle-grade.

Charlotte: I want DRAGONS!!! FIREBALLS!!! TO SEE BOOKSY ENEMIES DESTROYED!!!!!

Fuzzy Bee: Perhaps for that reason… Oh, I do not know. It is said that nothing happens in this books, but I’ve never read them so I don’t know.

Charlotte: FIREBALL!!!!!!!!!!!! *proceeds to pretend to throw one at Izzy*

Izzy: *is severely unimpressed*

Fuzzy Bee: Oh my. *hides*

Charlotte: *yawns* Anyway. It is like eleven now. And I…. *mumbles* I wanna sleep… And Isabelle’s going to force us all up at 9 tomorrow… So… goodnight.

Izzy: Yes, yes, tis past your bedtime, young lady!!

Fuzzy Bee: Didn’t she stay up till three reading Greenglass House?

Izzy: My dear, I could not rip that book out of her hands!!! She had her claws dug in. Had I ripped it out of her hands, it would’ve ripped the book itself. I had no choice but to let her. *glances at the clock* Alas, I fear our time on Isabelle’s blog may be up… *shuffles mournfully* Fare thee well, all you bookworms and writers!! It was lovely while it lasted!!!

Fuzzy Bee: Oh. Yes. Alright. *wings droop* Farewell, all you bookworms!!! I will see you again in the next book review!! Twas wonderful being here. And remember, no matter what, bee money is better than human money!!!!

(muffled as she flies off to bed) Farewelll!!!

*fidgets in the silence of the blog*

I must admit, I am rather missing them right now…. Alas. (Oh yes, and hello, there!! ^^ Tis Isabelle here once again!) Do let me know down in the comments what you thought! (Or if you agree with the CFC’s reading tastes! Of if you agree they ought to have their own blog. XD) I love hearing from y’all!!

And alas, it is actually eleven pm over here in Thailand, and so I must now leave you all for the Land of Sleep. Farewell! And wishing y’all a wonderful week!

-Isabelle

P.S. Also, just look at this darling little bookstore in the featured image. Isn’t it just gorgeous?? <3

About Isabelle Knight 215 Articles
Hi! My name is Isabelle Knight, and I'm the young writer and middle-grade author of the Enchantria series! I love writing (though the writing process is usually both magical and maddening) and have been writing since I was ten. When I'm not writing about eerie shadows, daring heroines, and magic, I'm usually stuck with my nose in a book, drawing, or playing the ukulele or tin whistle.
